Day 2 Connecting city

We land in the connecting city and board our onward flight to Beijing. Get some rest: two weeks of ancient history are waiting.

Day 3 Beijing

Welcome to Beijing! When you arrive in China's capital, a representative meets you and takes you to the hotel. The rest of the day is for resting after the journey or soaking up the city's energy, its history-filled streets and the teahouses that keep old Peking's soul alive.

Day 4 Beijing: the Forbidden City

We visit the Imperial Palace, known as the Forbidden City, and Tiananmen Square, one of the largest in the world. Next is the Temple of Heaven, built in 1420 across 267 hectares (660 acres), where emperors prayed for good harvests, followed by the Chinese Medicine Center. Lunch included at a local restaurant.

Day 5 Beijing: the Great Wall

An excursion to the Great Wall of China at the Juyongguan pass, a structure with more than 2,000 years of history, and a visit to a jade factory, with lunch included. In the afternoon we stop for photos at the Bird's Nest and the Water Cube (outside only) and visit the Summer Palace, the Qing dynasty's summer garden. We close the day with the included welcome dinner: delicious Peking duck.
